Ballantine’s celebrates 10 years as the official Scotch whisky sponsor

Sunday 16th July 2017, Ayrshire – Spanish player, Rafa Cabrera-Bello completed an unforgettable four days by winning the Aberdeen Asset Management (AAM) Scottish Open after a thrilling play-off against Englishman Callum Shinkwin. Sponsored by Ballantine’s Scotch whisky, the event is one of the European Tour’s flagship tournaments and precedes the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale Golf Club.

Cabrera-Bello was crowned champion of Scotland’s national open after an excellent week of highly competitive golf in challenging and testing conditions. The final day started with some of the world’s most popular golfers in contention. European Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter and Matt Kuchar from America were among those poised to make a challenge on the Dundonald Links on Scotland’s Ayrshire coast.

The Spaniard won his third European Tour victory with a birdie at the first extra hole after hitting a brilliant approach shot into the par-five 18th from 275 yards.

Ballantine’s presence at this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open included: on-course signage and player awards, including a bottle of Ballantine’s 17 Year Old for a birdie on the 17th hole, a bottle of Ballantine’s 21 Year Old for the lowest round of each day, and a bottle of Ballantine’s 30 Year Old for the winner.
