The platform has showcased more than 10 incredible artists to millions of fans worldwide and has released two stunning animated music videos. It’s all been building up to True Music Spain which lands next month and promises the biggest line-up yet, across two unique events.

Ballantine’s and Boiler Room’s True Music tour has traversed the globe celebrating and supporting artists from different cities and touched down in Madrid for the culmination of its first project and the launch of the True Music Forum.

BALLANTINE’S & BOILER ROOM’S TRUE MUSIC SPAIN SHOW
The No. 2 whisky in the world, Ballantine’s is committed to championing independent artists who do it their way and the final event in Madrid on March 9 2017 was the ultimate celebration of this. With a capacity of 1,500, it was the biggest True Music show to-date and featured a line-up to match. Hand-picked by Maya, some of the biggest global and local DJs played in a back-to-back special throughout the night, including:

BALLANTINE’S & BOILER ROOM’S TRUE MUSIC FORUM
A first for both Ballantine’s and Boiler Room, the True Music Forum aims to inspire and engage the next generation of True Music artists through a day of panels, workshops and talks from the industry’s best. Taking place on Wednesday 8 March 2017 in Madrid, the True Music Forum featured panellists including the team behind Maya Jane Coles - including Steven Braines (CEO) & Sophia Kearney (General Manager) of The Weird & The Wonderful, artist managers for Maya Jane Coles, Brendan Long, Maya’s music agent at WME and Neil Bainbridge, Director of Press & Publicity at Neighbourhood PR. Also taking to the stage was leading independent label Hypercolour’s Jamie Russell, journalist Kieran Yates (The Guardian), DJ Fra (Nitsa), and Mirik Milan (Night Mayor of Amsterdam) who, alongside other music industry leaders provided up-and-coming artists direct access and insight. The thought provoking sessions included:
- Is DIY the new industry? Exploring the rising success of DIY against traditional major label routes within the industry, led by renowned music journalist Kieran Yates
- The future of European night life: Across the continent, clubs are closing, re-opening and even expanding but what is the future for European nightlife? Night Mayor of Amsterdam’s Mirik Milan explored this hot topic with other thought leaders
- Maya Jane Coles’ team: Hosted by Boiler Room’s head of music Raj Chaudhuri, this session focussed on the rise and rise of Maya Jane Coles to date, with a close look at the inner working of the team that maintain her international profile, including her management, PR and events teams
- A lens on Spain’s scene: A spotlight on Spain’s budding creative scene through the eyes of festival curators, musicians and producers. The panel explored the place of Spanish art in the cultural landscape of Europe as a whole.

BALLANTINE’S & BOILER ROOM’S TRUE MUSIC EP
Coinciding with these two events in Madrid was the launch of the first True Music EP. Over the course of the project, Maya has worked with producers from South Africa, Russia and Spain to remix unreleased tracks from her forthcoming album. Supporting these independent artists, united by their shared passion for making music, the resulting EP is a remarkable take on electronic music in 2017. Each remix is accompanied with its own beautifully animated video, taking Maya’s original productions in bold new directions.
